The Southeast Delco School District has received funding to expand the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) to five of its schools.

The program provides students with free fruit and vegetable snacks during the school day and aims to introduce children to new foods while encouraging healthier eating habits.

This is the second year of implementation for the Kindergarten Center and Sharon Hill School, which participated in the program last year. With the expansion, the program will now be offered in all of the district’s elementary and middle schools.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to expand the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program to all Southeast Delco elementary and middle schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Yamil Sanchez Rivera. “Through this interactive and engaging program, our students will explore healthy food options and learn about nutrition in ways that will positively impact the rest of their lives.”

Administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the FFVP provides funding to eligible schools across the state. Each snack is accompanied by a short lesson about the featured food item, such as where it is grown, when it is in season, and the nutritional benefits it provides.
