On May 22, Southeast Delco School District hosted a special event at Sharon Hill Elementary in partnership with Read Alliance (READ), the PA Chamber Foundation, and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. 📚 The event highlighted our district’s pilot of READ’s powerful dual-impact program, which improves early literacy for K-2 students while providing paid tutoring jobs for high schoolers. Many Teen Leaders returned to their former elementary school to give back where it all began. 💙 With support from caring teachers and a structured, phonics-based curriculum, students are gaining reading skills, confidence, and career readiness. Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Yamil Sanchez and the entire SE Delco team for bringing this vision to life and investing in student success at every level! 👏

Third Grade Field Trip to Philadelphia Skate Plex By: Jenna Sponheimer, Lisa McDonough, Meg Gordon Our Third-Grade class went on a field trip to the Philadelphia Skate Plex. We started our field trip off with a STEM presentation, which showed and explained force and motion. Our students then had the opportunity to make their own gliders and have a competition about whose could fly the farthest using different forces and arm motion. The students were then off to skate, climb, and play. This outing was a great opportunity for students to build on their science knowledge as well as increase confidence, practice coordination, and bond with classmates in a safe, supervised environment.

8th Graders Participate in Nationwide Writing Contest By: Mrs. Maria Toner, 8th grade ELA teacher At the beginning of the year, our 8th-grade students were invited to participate in a nationwide writing contest through YoungWriters.org. They were asked to write a 100-word mini-saga and submit their entry to be considered for publication in a professionally edited chapter book. In January, 22 students were selected to be part of two different books. Most of them were included in Fright Club: Nightmare Tales, while others were included in Fright Club: Seeing is Believing. All of the students were given certificates for their hard work. The published book was sent to the school in early May, the students were excited to see their name in print. We are so proud of this accomplishment!

Pages, Prizes, and Possibilities: Highlights from Delcroft’s Spring Book Fair: Ms. Thompson Our Spring Book Fair turned the school into a hive of literary excitement—and it paid off in more ways than one. Thanks to our enthusiastic readers and supportive families, we earned $2,000 in Scholastic Dollars, giving us the means to stock the library, classrooms, and teachers’ shelves with fresh resources. We also dipped into those Scholastic funds on the spot, snapping up extra titles and assembling 13 themed book baskets to raffle off to lucky students. Seeing kids light up as they browsed new stories and chatted about favorite authors reminded us why events like these matter. The fair wasn’t just a fundraiser; it was a celebration of imagination that will keep inspiring our students long after the last page is turned.

🎲 Rolling Into Review: Miss Dupiriak’s 8th Annual Board Game Bonanza 🎲 On June 11th at 2:00 PM, Miss Dupiriak’s 6th-grade ELA students will take over the cafeteria for a one-of-a-kind celebration of learning and creativity. After a year of hard work, students have turned their ELA notes into original board games, each packed with test review questions, custom themes, and clever twists that make studying fun. From TDA treasure hunts to plot-twist challenges, these games are designed to help students review in the most engaging way possible. The Board Game Bonanza is more than just a review day, it’s a celebration of imagination, collaboration, and academic growth. As students rotate through and play each other’s games, they’ll reinforce key concepts while sharing laughter, friendly competition, and pride in what they’ve created. It’s proof that learning can be both meaningful and memorable!
