Superintendent's Message
Welcome to the Southeast Delco School District’s new website, where you will be able to find many relevant resources for you and your children related to our district. Our mission and vision statements remain crucial guideposts for the administration, staff and teachers, and are the cornerstones of our daily activities.
Our district’s mission is to nurture, educate and challenge students to become lifelong learners, while making their way beyond our schools with knowledge, compassion and a desire to serve the global community. The Southeast Delco School District fosters a student-centered learning environment in which students are problem-solvers, informed decision makers, and collaborative learners. All students have access to powerful technological tools that enable them to deepen knowledge and understanding. In this stimulating atmosphere, access to information and close communication with others become unlimited. Our goal is to provide an outstanding education through which all of our students can achieve academic excellence.
Parental involvement remains among the primary areas of our focus, with the active support of the Community Engagement Organization (CEO). Research has consistently demonstrated that students with involved parents are more likely to earn higher grades and enroll in higher-level programs, regardless of family income. These students are also more likely to attend school regularly, advance to the next grade and graduate, and move on to post-secondary education. First and foremost, parents can directly support their children’s education by seeing that students arrive to school ready to learn. We call upon parents to ensure that students are well rested, to verify that homework assignments are completed, and that reading and other learning activities are encouraged at home. We strongly encourage parents to volunteer at their school, and we ask for a minimum of a two-hour commitment per month.
We will continue our firm adherence to our Strategic Plan, an evolving, living document that guides the work of both schools and the central office as we move toward an era of accelerated achievement among all disaggregated groups. Among our key academic drivers, we will:
- achieve standards-based curriculum and assessments for teaching and learning in order to help students reach ever
- higher levels of academic performance provide a safe and orderly environment for each of our schools and facilities
- build leadership capacity among our staff
- implement continuous professional development so that instruction is aligned with different student learning modalities
- actively involve students in the entire educational process
- close the achievement gap and meet AYP targets
- continue collecting and analyzing data as indicators of performance, practice, trends and root causes upon which strategic decisions are based
- foster leadership and accountability in a results-oriented environment
I welcome your comments, suggestions and feedback as we continue to work to serve the needs of each of our students. You can reach me at 610-522-4300, ext. 5328 or by e-mail, tbennett@sedelco.org.
