Elementary Education
The Southeast Delco School District is dedicated to implementing a challenging curriculum that supports the district mission and the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. The best practices and current philosophies of each discipline have been carefully studied by teams of experienced teachers and administrators in order to develop curricular goals that solidify basic skills, cultivate creativity and examine understandings as we work toward developing our students to have the 21st century skills necessary for success.
Instructional strategies are designed to acknowledge and appreciate the diverse interests, abilities and learning styles of the young learners in our schools.
The goal of the Elementary Language Arts Curriculum is to develop the essential skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking and research. The reading component, which is designed to be a balanced approach to literacy instruction, includes the Five Critical Areas outlined by the National Reading Panel: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Approved instructional materials include: Harcourt Trophies Series and Project Read.
The Mathematics Curriculum encompasses the essential areas of computational fluency, conceptual understanding of number relationships and problem solving. Approved curricular materials include EveryDay Mathematics by McGraw-Hill.
